We took a road trip to Sibu from Kuching during the Gawai holidays. About 225km from Kuching, there was a long queue of vehicles along the highway. We had to slow down to almost a halt. From afar, we saw a crowd of vehicles and people by the roadside. My first thought was: “Accident!”

Not really. But that’s what they call Bamboo Clam here apart from many other names like Live Razor Clams, sea needle, ambal, etc. We call it tek tarhn in hokkien.
