You know, the necktie that you are forced to wear, was created by the French.
While collars were worn in Europe during the Renaissance, and ruffs and collars in the early 17th century, it was not until the mid 17th Century that the necktie’s ancestor appeared.
During the Thirty Years War, which raged across Europe from 1618 to 1648, Croatian mercenaries employed by the King of France wore knotted kerchiefs slung casually around their necks, with the ends hanging loose. Fashion-minded French officers adopted the kerchief not only for its style but also for its utility. It did not require the elaborate bleaching, ironing and starching that their ruff collars needed.
The style was brought back to the court of King Louis XIV, and by 1650, the French nobility had adopted it. The fashion soon spread throughout Europe and around the world.
Now you can start cursing them!

Over here some schools, like my son’s u don’t have to properly knot a tie now. They have ready made ones with elastic collar n just slip on n tucked under the collared uniform shirt, very easy. I hate tying ties too but they sure look smart n formal with proper shirts.
My grandfather has one clip-on tie, just for the purpose of photography. Hahaha! You know, old people don’t like to wear a tie (not saying you, STP
) because they say its strangling. Hahaha!
Yeah. Why the hell in a Tropical country like us need to wear tie for formal meeting or interview. >.
If the heat doesn’t kill you, the tie will. Haahahahha!!!
Oh come on lay off the attire. Haven’t you got better things to do then picking on the poor defenseless tie.
Huh? I don’t find a word in this post that ‘pick on’ the tie. This is an informative post if you really read it.
The “yew char koi”! I hate ties! Good thing they never forced us to wear in SHS! I said if ever there was such a ruling, I would resign 24 hours!!! So hot, want me to die kah! LOL!!!
My uni made it compulsory for male students to wear tie with long-sleeves shirt when attending lectures everyday. You say can faint or not?
STP’s stunt in K K was to wear a tie on introduction to the students. He’ll take off the tie after being introduced and remarked to the attentive students…..” Don’t worry..I’ll not take any other things off….” laughters and clap..clap..clap…from the students…and they remained attentive thereafter.

Wow ! Hey was just kidding there no offense ya. Tie hmm come to think of it on certain occassions yes they can be appropriate but on other occassions. Darn right inappropriate because of the weather. Try wearing one of it with long sleeves and going into a warehouse to do some inspection or survey.
None taken
No thanks! Went to survey wearing long sleeves shirt almost killed me, no tie please thank you! (Actually I forgot it was survey day so I didn’t wear a T-shirt instead. Hehe!)
Luckily I do not need to wear tie for work and I am not up to that kind of standard that need to wear long sleeve and tie to work. If not, will just like STP said, want me to die kah? so hot and uncomfortable with tie around the neck.
Yalor! Under Malaysian weather, if the heat doesn’t kill you, the tie will.
I’m not entitled to wear a tie during work, cause I’m a rough labor. LOL!
Hahahahaha!!! Aren’t we all?
Thanx for the infos.
and for your info, i was forced to wear neck tie since i was in secondary school and then , now in my office , it is unwritten law but it is ‘required’ .
Other than makes us suffocate under the sun, it also a troublesome for us to buy shirts..i got 2 shirts still looking for a right combination to go with the tie.Right now, im doin the ‘Kit Kat way’..just wear a black tie.simple.
Wonder how that french designer spread the idea of wearing his creation to make the male to feel like a gentleman? I wish i have a time-machine and go back to the past and slap him before he start to sew the 1st neck tie.Or perhaps, i can suggest to him to create something like a pagoda singlet and a bermuda shorts and claim it as a proper and gentlemen attire.
