Sweet Happiness

My uncle was in town, so he invited me to dinner last week. Initially we planned to have our dinner at Ah Tau’s, BDC but due to the unexplainable traffic jam along the way, we changed venue to a restaurant at Tabuan Laru (behind Fat Cat) called Sweet Happiness. We went early, at about 6.30 pm so the restaurant was still empty with only a table or two filled.
There were only the two of us, so we ordered a plate of Foochow Fried Mee (with gravy) which I forgot to take the picture before eating. Other than that, we had Midin fried with garlic. My mom cooks better than this, I must say.
Pork Ribs (Pai Kut) - It looked as if it was cooked with ang chao but it was not.I don’t know what they cook it with but there were peanuts/beans in the gravy. My uncle said usually they have this with man tao (bun) but they did not have man tao on that day. It was kind of nice when eaten hot but for reasons unknown I was not keen on meat nowadays.
My favourite dish of the night was this Sze Chuan Tofu, or something like that if I heard correctly because…
…this was not sour and spicy like any Sze Chuan dish out there. In fact, it was not spicy at all. It tasted like sea cucumber with mushroom in oyster sauce. However, the tofu was fried to perfection with minced meat and a prawn on top (strong taste of chao chai - neh, the one they put in the laksa wan). I like this very much! ![]()
