High Tea @ Hilton Hotel, Kuching
Apr 3rd, 2009 by Clare
This post is way due because it happened last month. Chipmunk and I were invited to a high tea at the Waterfront Cafe, Hilton Hotel in conjunction of a 23rd birthday celebration of a certain sweet young thing
And since it was buffet-style, we lived up to its name (kiasu) by piling our plates high with every food available!
FIRST round - The Appetizer
Clockwise from top: Sushi-like salad, pieces of ham, steamed fish fillet with spices (I love this!), tomato salad, Italian salad and sausage salad. The salads taste the same!
I saw these nicely displayed on a small elevated shelf. They looked like sushi to me, the only difference was it’s wrapped in salad leaf instead of seaweed. I took one and…my verdict was…I almost puked!
SECOND round - The Fritters
Clockwise from left (9 o’clock): Roti jala, fish fingers with mayonnaise, currypuff-like kuih, some fried triangular-shaped kuih, deep fried don’t-know-what and fried chicken.
THIRD round - More oily and fattening fritters
The fried chicken was nice so we took more
The fish fingers too
And some meat balls! Frankly speaking, they were not bad BUT I have tasted better meat balls at IKEA.
Some deep-fried sio bee or was it ngor hiong bak (5-spices meat rolls) I couldn’t make out from the photo and some vegetable rolls as can be seen in the background.
FOURTH round - heavy duty food
Bihun sup, which was cooked on the spot by a chef. He gave us lots of shrimps! Taste-wise, it was tasteless and the shrimps not fresh! We could not finish this! (and since when we did not manage to finish our food?
)
FIFTH round - cakes!
I have forgotten the fancy names of the cakes already
SIXTH round - more cakes and DESSERTS
Some strawberry mousse and peach desserts
SEVENTH round - waffles
We forgot to take pictures of that but there was a counter for waffles and a chef was there to make a waffle on the spot at your request. There were a variety of sauces you can choose to go with your waffles, eg. chocolate syrup, jam, peanut butter, honey, etc.
EIGHT round - sandwiches
Again, we forgot to take pictures of the delicious sandwiches of chicken/mushroom ham and beef slices. There was a counter where another chef was stationed to make your sandwich at your request. The counter was called “Make Your Own Sandwich” which was beyond me because we did not make OUR OWN sandwich. Maybe that was a precaution in case we burn down the cafe. LOL!
NINTH round - finisher
Chipmunk had Ais Kacang or chendol
They even had the ice-shredding machine for you to make your own ais kacang…
And an assortment of red bean paste, jellies, cendol, longan, and whatnots for your ais kacang. On the other hand, I had some chocolate ice cream.
With gummies and chocolate syrup. There were peanuts, chocolate rice, syrup, etc to go with ice cream flavours of your choice!
TENTH round - fruits
This was the last round. I promise. Well, I don’t think I have to show you the picture of sliced apples, guava, honey dew, watermelon, pineapple, papaya, etc. I think you know how they look like.
So that marked the end of the high tea buffet which ended at about 5.30pm. It started at 3.30pm, by the way.

Tell you what .When I was here yesterday, there were aldeady 8 comments. 7 and 8 were I suspect from the Hotel.. Achetiect.%$#^.com or something.. was in reference to cibol’s comment and 8 to TOC’s comment ..and both merely repeating the comments made….sort of advertisment I submitted mine and both were gone..they must have taken them off when they realised that toc’s was not a compliment..hahaha
Really? I took them off ler. They were link backs which I don’t really like. Unless from a real blog like STP’s or whoever’s. Got about 4 of those comments before that but I deleted them as well. Most likely spam
