Are You The Hitz.fm Fugitive?
Mar 16th, 2009 by Clare
One of the top English radio station in Malaysia was having this fugitive thingy for a couple of weeks (maybe 2) which ended last Friday. The rule was to listen in for clues, decipher the clues and go to the location and ask around “Are you the hitz dot eff am fugitive?” If you asked the right person at the right place, you’d be a few thousand Ringgit richer, depending on the bounty at that time.
So, last Friday was the last day to catch the fugitive. Normally there was only ONE fugitive running around Malaysia for you to catch but since Friday was the last day, they have 13 fugitives running in all the states in Malaysia so that everyone stood a chance to win some bounty, and the bounty was RM10,000 as a start that day.
Anyway, slightly before 5pm, I was rushing to finish my job when I heard the current clue at that time. It was “BOWLING” and immediately my mind flew to…

…the Riverside Majestic building right across the street from my office. There was a bowling centre on the 5th floor of the building.
You see, one advantage of Kuching is that it has only 2 places with bowling alleys - one in Everrise BDC and the other one in Riverside Majestic. So when Chipmunk came to fetch me from work, he said that 3 other clues had just been announced - “HOTEL“, “ENTRANCE” and “ARCH“. So, the bowling centre at Everrise BDC was ruled out because RiversideMajestic is a hotel!
Since we’re around the corner, we went to HUNT FOR THE HITZ.FM FUGITIVE! We went straight to 5th Floor to check out the bowling centre. Luckily there were not a lot of people in there. Only about 4 lanes were occupied. There were two girls walking around the place as well and we suspected they are looking for the fugitive as well.
We scanned around and ruled out most of the people there. The most suspicious persons were the lone old man playing bowling near the counter next to the entrance, the man at the counter (which is an arch) near the entrance or the lady talking to the security guard near the entrance and the arch counter. When I asked the guy playing bowling, he just shook his head. Disappointment.
Then we went to the entrance of the complex. We even walked to the entrance of the hotel. No one was there! We walked back into the shopping complex. We walked around a bit when the two girls from the bowling center walked up to Chipmunk and asked him, “Are you the Hitz.fm fugitive?” I almost burst into laughter. LOL!!!
A lone girl caught our attention. She was walking around that area for quite some time now, holding a handphone, looking all suspicious. Chipmunk asked me to go and ask her if she’s the Hitz.fm fugitive. When we’re hesitating and were about to walk up to her, she approached us and went, “Are you the Hitz eff am fugitive?” I almost fainted there and then! Even if I were the fugitive I wouldn’t admit lah! One of the rules was that the question must be right. You missed out the dot, you can’t win!
Then Chipmunk had this idea to go to the McD across the street. You see, the clue could be deciphered in another perspective as well. The “ARCH” could be McD which is the Golden Arch! And it is located near a “HOTEL” with “BOWLING” center. We might catch the fugitive at the “ENTRANCE” of McD!
It was getting dark, signifying heavy downpour was about to attack. We went over to McD. No one was there! We tried calling Hitz.fm to get the latest update (my mp3 cannot receive anything when I was at the basement) but the phone was either engaged or never answered! %#&^%$#!!! After a while, we decided to say goodbye to RM10,000 and go back for dinner (Hungry already mah)!
We decided to resume the fugitive hunt at night. The bounty for the last and final round of the fugitive hunt was RM15,000. We did not go for it but we went to watch a movie instead. At about 11pm we tuned in to the radio station to check on the fugitive update. Apparently, no one caught him and hence the RM15,000 flew out the window and into the drain!
Oh well, fortunately we did not waste time hunting for the fugitive and caught nothing. It was an interesting game but a note to Hitz.fm: If you guys are going to have this kind of game which involves the listener, please include us from Sabah and Sarawak as well. In the fugitive hunt, we’re involved only on the last day.
The funniest thing is: We went to hunt for the fugitive but were mistaken for the fugitive instead! LOL! Can’t stop laughing at the thought of it! ![]()
