Fragrance of Rice
Sep 24th, 2008 by Clare
Jay Chou is going to release a new album (called Capricorn) soon, 9th October, to be exact. His new song, Fragrance of Rice (Dao Xiang), is nice. I like the song! It’s soothing to the ears and calming to the soul. LOL! Seriously.
I like Jay’s song. His songs are all meaningful and one can relate to the song in one way or another. I started listening to Jay Chou since secondary school. His song has been there accompanying me when I was preparing to sit for the many head-breaking exams in school, when I was in my first relationship, when I was having my first break up (and a few break ups after that), when I quarrelled with my boyfriends, when I was travelling, when I was about to fall asleep, when I was procrastinating in doing my assignments through the night, etc.
I practically grew up to his songs! It’s nostalgic sometimes when listening to his old songs but they are still nice songs. Yeah, I have all his albums, shut up! And I can karaoke to most of his songs ![]()

And why do I feel the need to get you off Jay Chou’s songs? kekekeke…
What..what…Why?!
you like Gay Chou’s singing ah? you haven’t heard me sing yet!
Heard liao, neh the CNY wan. Bwakakakaka! But you no produce album ler…
Wow~ This song is very meaningful… I like this Gay Chou too, I mean his songs!
Yeah~I think so too
I like Jay’s songs too. But this new song I still have to listen more first.
To translate into English, the meaning of the lyrics goes something like this:
If you have too much complains in this world
Once you fall down, you won’t have the courage to move forward
Why is human so fragile?
Please switch on the TV and watch
How many people are trying striving hard to struggle for survival
Shouldn’t we feel enough
Treasure what you have now, even though you have nothing but you actually own everything
Remember back then you said home is your only castle
The fragrance of the rice, the river flowing
Smiling slightly, I remember the childhood dream
Don’t you cry, let the firefly brings you places
Listen forever to the folk song
Go home, go back to the beginning of everything wonderful
Do not give up easily
Like what I said
You can achieve the dream you can’t reach by modifying it
Let your life be colourful again
Paint your favourite colour onto love first
Do smile, your purpose is not to become famous
Being happy is more meaningful
The paper plane from childhood
Is now flying back into my hands
The so-called happiness
Running barefooted on the paddy field, chasing dragonflies
Plucking fruits and being stung by bees
Who is laughing now?
I leaned against the scarecrow, wind blowing, singing and I fell asleep
Oh! Oh! Playing guitar in the afternoon accompanied by the sound of insect making it more melodic
Oh! Oh! You will not get hurt when the sun is shining your path
Treasure what you have now, even though you have nothing, you actually own everything
I’m not good in translating/interpret Mandarin to English and this is the best I can come up with. LOL! Don’t flame me!
Flame! Flame! Flame!
hahahahaa…
Eyew…….!!!! Ewek! Ewek!! LOL!!!
“Fragrant Rice” lyrics
Composer: Jay Chou
Lyricist: Jay Chou
If you have too many complaints towards this world
When you fall down you don’t dare to continue walking forward
Why must people be so weak, depraved
I ask you to turn on the TV and see
How many people bravely try hard to continue walking for their life
Shouldn’t we be content with what we have?
You should cherish everything even if you don’t possess it
I still remember you said your home was the only castle, you continue to run with the fragrance of the rice and the flowing river
Smiling, the dreams when you were young, I know
Don’t cry, let the fireflies lead you to escape, the eternal dependence of the folk song in the country
Just go home
Go back to the happiness at the very start
Don’t be so easy to give up, it’s just like I say
For dreams you can’t achieve, switch it for another and it’ll be fine
Put some colour into your life, firstly paint the colour you like on love
Come on and smile, merit and fame aren’t the goals
Let yourself be happy, this is what you call meaning
The paper airplane from my childhood, it’s finally flown back to my hand now
That so called happiness, running barefoot in the fields chasing crickets and getting tired
Picking fruits without permission and getting scared from being stung by bees, who’s sniggering?
I lean on the scarecrow while being blown by the wind while singing while sleeping
Oh oh, if the sunshine sprinkles on the road then I won’t be afraid of being broken-hearted
You should cherish everything even if you don’t possess it
I still remember you said your home was the only castle, you continue to run with the fragrance of the rice and the flowing river
Smiling, dreams when you were young, I know
Don’t cry, let the fireflies lead you to escape, the eternal dependence of the folk song in the country
Just go home
Go back to the happiness at the very start
