I miss the apam balik - both the thin and thick ones. Can't find a decent one here in Sydney. The closest they have is the Indonesian version of thick apam balik which they call "murtabak", which again isn't exactly like apam balik, it's kinda atrocious to my liking. Isn't it weird, because to us murtabak is something like erm.. gourmet roti canai.

I think I did take a picture of murtabak, now where is it?

Anyway, in K.Kinabalu, that thin apam balik costs RM1 per piece. Damn bloody expensive right, yeah food in KK is bloody expensive, bikin panas only. Bagus lah kalau sedap (speak with the Sabahan accent). The food in Sabah - and I wish them no ill - is not, I feel, my kind of food. Haha, one man's meat another man's poison. Sibu is a food heaven (haven?) lah, relatively cheap I mean. Back to that thin apam balik sold in KK (in most places), if you are lucky, you can get fresh crispy ones. But most of the time, have to stay do with a "masuk angin" apam balik, yang boleh bikin patah gigi when tearing off a bite.

I don't like the masuk agin apam balik either. Best taken fresh from the small kuali...

Anyway, love reading your posts about food. I've started to promote your blog to my Aussie friends since they are very interested to learn about M'sian food, and they are amazed to read your reviews. ;)

Thanks Anne! Malunyer aku! Kena tutup kemaluan nih! :D LOL!
