Kem Permai
Aug 4th, 2008 by Clare
It has been a long long time since I last went jungle-trekking. Given the chance and time, I’d love to do it every week. Kem Permai, which is located right next to Damai Puri Resort & Spa, is the place to go if you want to be close to nature (not peeing in the sea, that is), i.e. hiking cum jungle trekking.
Pay first before you start. RM5 for adult, RM4 for university or college students, RM3 for senior citizens, RM2 for kids, etc. Well, I guess most of you must be thinking: “I bet my ass that she’s paying RM4! Si mai bin!” Right?
You bet your ass I do! Flaunt my student card and *tada* I get student rate! I can almost hear you say “Need or not oh! RM1 only also want to save! So kiamsiap can die!” Sue me!
Then, time to double check your checklist. “No pets allowed.” Check. “No cutting of plants/trees.” Check. “No motorcycles.” Check. “No littering allowed.” Check. “No nudity.” Huh? Hmm…now that’s interesting! Nude jungle-trekking (TM)!
Let’s go!
Hmm…I wonder what ‘activity’ they are referring to…
“HELLO? ANYBODY HOME???”
Look Ma, TREE HOUSE!!!
There are quite a number of tree houses for guests. 2 person per tree house at RM210. Imagine you are jungle trekking at night and while passing by the tree houses, one of them starts shaking
Doing it a few feet above the ground, in the jungle, accompanied by the sound of insects…hmm…sound sexciting!
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! So this is how it feels like to be a monkey
Eh, we, Sarawakians are good at swinging from tree to tree okay. We did it since young
That’s how we travel from one place to another
After fooling around for some time, my knees got weak when I saw this sign. 90-freaking-minutes!!! You gotta be kidding me!
So I walked…
And walked…
And walked…
Until I saw that…
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
The path blocked by a fallen timber, and we had to climb over the timber to continue our journey
After a long climb, you’ll have to cross a makeshift rope bridge to get to the other side. If you are not careful, you’ll fall smashing into the rocks below the bridge. The splash damage would won you the award for abstract painting. Just don’t look down! (I know I did, and this is seriously not for the faint hearted!)
HALLELUJAH!!! I found water!
As predicted, we reached the top after 90 minutes! There is a mini waterfall with really cold water from the mountain.
Ok, no more pee-tasting this time. I just wanted to skinny dip in the cold water after a long hike. The water was so cold that my nipples can cut through glass! LOL!
If compared to the last time I hiked when I was 14, my stamina has dropped, a lot! I played basketball back then so my stamina was better because the only ball that I play now is Huai Bin’s Alvin’s balls
Anyway, the journey down was even more challenging because you have to keep yourself balanced on the very steep path or else you’ll be sliding down the rocky mountain using your balls as brakes. Ouch!

OK, that was fast. Now that you have elaborated it to near perfection, I no need to blog about it liao.
Near perfection? I don’t think so! Blog about it also lah, I wanna read your version
i didn’t know there’s a waterfall in damai…
i went to da one in Gunung Gading when i travelled to kuching last year
Oh, too bad! You should climb up the mountain to reach the waterfall
Clare, these jungle walks seem to almost bring out the ‘animal’ in you.
Did you see any snakes?
Oh yes, we are animals by nature! LOL!
No, I don’t see any snakes. I did hope to bump into at least one, though. Disappointed!
found any orang utan arr???
Orang utan? Got! Neh, that one swinging on tree branch in one of the pictures
Very nice images and spirit shown on your way back to the jungle. If you really want to trek every week then come to PM where I can tell you where the trails are … no Borneo yet. Check out these sites http://www.nature-escapes-kuala-lumpur.com for more details
Thanks for dropping by
