What Did You Have For Breakfast?
May 28th, 2008 by Clare
If I am in Kuching, I normally have
Laksa
The best laksa in Kuching is at Chong Choon, as claimed by many people. The similar laksa can also be found at Fat Cat in Tabuan Laru, operated by a family member of the laksa seller at Chong Choon. So there is no need to drive far and going through the hassle of finding parkings just to have laksa at Chong Choon. Apart from that, laksa from Foody Goody, a block away from Fat Cat, is not bad. Kuchingites said that the laksa from Foody Goody has a kind of taste, some people like it, some don’t.
Kolo Mee
Usually I will have kolo mee for supper (11pm - 12midnight) but sometimes I have it for breakfast as well. Basically, there are a lot of places that serve good kolo mee in Kuching. You can just ask any Kuchingite for that matter. The most common places are Xiang Xiang and Expert. Both have branches all over Kuching and they are operated 24 hours.
Kolo Mee Special
When the cravings are strong, we’ll drive up to 10th Mile to have the kolo mee special at one of the kopitiam there. The special is added prawns, fish balls, prawn balls, kiaw (bian sit), char sio, etc.I like it with char sio yiu (BBQ pork oil)
Kuey Chap
I normally have kuey chap at 3rd Mile. The soup is always served pipping hot. I prefer the pig’s internal organs such as stomach and intestines to pork. The shop that I was always brought to serve generous amount of pig’s internal organs and pork as well as tau pok (dried bean curd).
But when I am in Sibu, I’ll do what Sibu people normally do. Eat at home lar, what else!
This morning, I had Maggi Mee. Asam Laksa flavour. I dug around for more things to throw in and found a few fish balls, crab sticks, tomatoes, and egg. It would be perfect if there are prawns left but I remember finishing the prawns last weekend. It’s fast, cheap and full filling. Cheaper than a plate of kampua nowadays! ![]()

TWO more days…and I’ll be in Kuching to eat ALL that!!! And you can eat your heart out!!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!!!! I don’t like tomatoes cook, prefer to eat them raw…and I usually break an egg into the noodles while it’s cooking to poach it.
Hahahahahaha! I can eat whenever I want in Kuching so no worries, I’ll be there in no time soon. The tomatoes are not cooked lor, I dumped them in after I cooked everything. The egg was pre-cooked before I woke up. So just eat it lor, I also like to break an egg into the noodle wan.
I’ve gotta try kolo mee.

Normally, I will have Wan Tan Mee or porridge with You Tiao as breakfast at my hometown - Malacca. In KL, nasi lemak or mihun goreng lol..
