Lunch At Ruby Restaurant
May 25th, 2008 by Clare
I had the chance to dine at the most talked about restaurant in town (according to STP’s blog lar), Ruby Restaurant, courtesy of Cikgu Suituapui.
Of course, with 2 bloggers in the group of 6 (the rest were STP’s gang - Nice meeting you, Sophia!), there were prayers before meal for every dish. The food were blessed with camera flashes before one was allowed to touch them. LOL!
Cikgu Suituapui’s daughter’s favourite, the first dish to arrive:
Salad Sotong (Squid)
Right after putting a piece of this crispy sotong into my mouth, the waitress brought the second dish
Buttered Cheese Baby Kailan
Too bad I put the wrong ISO setting for the camera and hence the blurred picture(s). By fay this is the best baby kailan I’ve ever tasted!
Next, came the-soup-that-shall-not-be-named (according to some people) but I’ll name it Shark’s Fin Soup, without the shark’s fin, of course!
I couldn’t taste any shark’s fin though. But there were generous amount of sea cucumber swimming in the soup. The soup is sour enough for my liking. A lot better than a lot of others I’ve tasted in a lot of places. LOL!
Arriving at the same time as the soup, ladies and gentlemen:
Mayonnaise Lamb
This is the best lamb dish I’ve tasted to date! Some eateries’ lamb dish have the weird lamb smell but not here. You can hardly taste anything lamb about this dish. Covered in mayonnaise gave it sourish taste, iLike!
Since I don’t quite fancy bitter gourd and nobody else did also, we ordered cangkuk manis fried with egg
Last but not least (not the last to arrive though, I purposely save the best for the last), the mouth-watering
Butter Scotch Prawns
I’ve mentioned earlier in my food blog that Kuching’s Sarawak Club’s Buttered Prawns is the best prawn dish I’ve tasted so far, right? Now I redeclare that Buttered Prawns from Sarawak Club in Kuching is the best prawn dish in Kuching and shall remain so until further clarified! Bwahahahaha!!! I prefer Butter Scotch Prawns from Ruby Restaurant in Sibu! I like the strong taste of this dish from Sibu, the prawns are huge summore. Sarawak Club’s tastes rather mild as compared to this.
As for drink, most of us had
Guinness Stout STP’s Ice Blended Kopi-O
DROOL NOW, PEOPLE!!!
PS: Hop over to STP’s blog for more information!

Hey, that was sea cucumber lah, not that endangered stuff. I think the soup here’s the best in town. ‘Tauhu leer’ is nicer at Y2K or Hai Bing. Hmmm…in comparison, my photos not too bad hor? We must do this again sumtime!! Rite now, l’m craving for Sheraton’s curry fish head… LOL!!
I thought I heard you order the ‘endangered’ stuff what. LOL!
I like the butter prawn.. hehe… but fattening..
Fattening??? Then don’t eat lor…
u need to eat more…ruby is only available in Sibu.
Oh, I’ll be here long long
wow. that’s a really old restaurant.
Not REALLY old lar
Suituapui joined the wrong profession liao.
He should be in the food business. Food tasting I mean. LOL…like in the old days before the emperor eats, he has these food tasters to eat it first. If they survive, then only the emperor eats.
But then again if STP is engaged for this role, he might not know when to stop and he’ll gasak the emperor’s share as well. Hahahahahaha!!!
Now where got that kind of job anymore…he should join the TV host for food show lar
Hahahaha…this old Cock(a) is jealous cos sui tuapui had a date with sui charbor!! Next stop-Sheraton…curry fish head! Nobody wants lau kay kak, curry or any other way! LOL!!!
stp bo bring me lerr…. ha ha
Can! Next round of Curry Fish Head at Sheraton on you okay?
All also I like …. haihhhhhhhhhhhh!! During that time when you were enjoying your yummy meal, I had to eat a very hard lemon chicken, it popped to someplace else when one tried to poke it with a fork! LOL
Kesian! I am sure STP will bring you to have the best lemon chicken in town, maybe he cooks it himselfm if you are here
I also love the prawns! But I love the name even better! U have to say it in foochow! Oh! Yes! I love to order this dish in very loud voice ‘Neh Yew Ha’ big big!!! He! He! I am very sure u know what ‘Neh Yew’ meant!
Have a very nice day!
BTW u r in Sibu now???
Of course I know what it means!
Yes, I am in Sibu now!
Judging from what you had written, Sibu food top the list of most delicious food in Malaysia (perhaps in the world?!).
Can say like that lor, coz food in places they claimed to be ‘the best’ are such major disappointment!
