You Still Suck!

I never failed to laugh my arse off every semi-annually after reading news about the outcome of the Malaysian University English Test, commonly known as MUET.
So proud are Malaysians that 72, 986 of our students obtained Band 3 AND lower! The number has reduced as compared to the previous outcome which was 74, 682. That means our students are getting better in English. Yay! Oh, and I did not mean it to be a compliment though. *smirks*
Are you proud that only 13% of our students achieved Band 4 and above? Well, not to say that I am looking down on those who got Band 3 AND lower, but the statistics proved that THEY SUCK! Big time. In English. Oh, and those who scored Band 4 in my shithole university are so proud of their achievement that they bragged about how easy it was to score a Band 4 or how they did not expect the ‘good’ result. O.o!!! To me, they didn’t deserve to score a Band 4 judging from the way they converse and write. I am sure I will get slammed for making such statement, but who cares? You still suck!!! Bwahahahahaha!!!
I was ashamed to score only a Band 5 and people could brag about scoring a Band 4 (or lower). The lower band that you scored, the better your command of English is? Oh, really. I did not know that. *snickers*
I posted about the level of English language we have in my shithole university some time ago, and there just had to be people who got all offended and started to defend themselves for being sucky in English. Click HERE if you want to know what I wrote previously. I mean, you know you suck in English and yet do not want to admit it but still being egoistic. Do something to improve if you do not like to be sucky in language. Getting all defensive does not help at all, because at the end of the day, you still suck!
Oh ya! Blaming your education background - Chinese-educated or Malay-educated - is definitely not a good excuse for having lousy English. The best excuse would be that you are too lazy to do anything about your sucky English. You just don’t want to do anything about it. You think you can survive with your level of English and that’s enough already. You don’t care what others think. You attended an English language class or two and you think you are already better than the rest. You are too egoistic to admit that your English sucks like nobody’s business.
Ask any English teachers around, best examples are Arthur Wee, Augustine Law, Joseph Dawson (his English is good, but I just don’t like the way he teaches!), and they will tell you the same thing (though not as harsh as yours truly). If you think you are damn good in English but converse with Malaysian accent (with -lah as conclusions to your sentences) or Foochow-English (go to Sibu and listen to Foochow people speak English and you will know what I mean! Bwahahaha!!!) or Chinese-English (the English sounds so Chinese that you’d think the person is speaking Mandarin!), you are still not considered good. I am not saying that you must speak with a British or American accent but simple and plain English will do.
What is so hard to learn about English language? It is hard to master it, I know, but being good at it is so worth it. I am not looking down on those who are ’less fortunate’ in English. They have no one to blame except for themselves. They are the ones who did not want to take the effort to improve in the first place. No one can help you.
Think about it before you start feeling offended at what I said/typed. There is no point getting all defensive, you still SUCK!!!
Never believe what they say! It’s all propaganda to pull wool over the eyes of the uninitiated!! For one thing, based on bits and pieces that I know about the exam, I doubt its credibility. Hence, we have near illiterates getting Band 3 and a proficient student getting Band 4 only. The SPM English 1119, being controlled and supervised by Cambridge, is more reliable…but then again, there ARE some loopholes here, there and everywhere!
But the 1119 one also cannot trust already, like you said got loopholes everywhere. Back then during our time still reliable but not the batch after ours.

yeah, most average malaysians are quite bad in english. those good one who seems to do well in exams are sometimes too book oriented and whn you try to convese with them it sounds like its quoted from a text book or smthn… sometimes they include with memorized idioms even.. i cant help but to giggle at times. i think its very normal to speak manglish, in malaysia at least, which seems to be our trademark… heard the vk lingam video ? thats a true manglish rite there man.. if anyone tries to attempt speaking with a british/american accent, surely would get stares wan.. the other day whn i spoke manglish to the canadian universities representatives they couldnt quite get me but when spoke with a northamerican accent everyone looked as if im somekinda wannabe liddat.. no fun lar!
That’s the problem with the society here. Last time when my mum and I were visiting my dad in hospital, we were conversing in English and got some stares from people nearby. I went ‘WTF?’, we were speaking Foochow English summore! 0.o!!!

Dun judge me as a Malay from my email address, I am a pure Chinese. There goes you guys thinking that you are superb in english but if you can’t master your own mother tongue then u are more like an asshole. I admit tat my english carries some Chinese accent but if you grew up in an english background then i m sure you speak Chinese like a BANANA(oh gosh, still thinking you can speak like those caucasions, YOU ACTUALLY SPEAK LIKE A MALAYSIAN). Is your chinese pronunciation 100% accurate? Sneering at Chinese converving in english with Foochow or Chinese accent, but if u speak English since you are young, THEN YOUR CHINESE SUCKS LIKE those u laugh at……. I KNOW ALL THE TEACHER YOU MENTION BEFORE AND THEY ALL TAUGHT ME BEFORE.
First of all, thanks for taking your time typing all that. Like what I have said, there are people who are going to get all defensive after reading this post because “siapa makan cili dia rasa pedas” and also because they are still in denial. LOL!
What makes you so sure that I speak Mandarin like a banana? Have you heard me speaking Mandarin before? And did I say that I speak English like the Caucasians? FYI, I grew up speaking Mandarin. If you say that your Mandarin pronunciation is 100% accurate, then I say you are arrogant! Want to know what is accurate? Go to China and listen to how they speak Mandarin. That is accurate, smarty! And I am not talking about Mandarin here, read the post again!
Furthermore, you even dare to say that all the teachers that I have mentioned in this post taught you before when you couldn’t even spell properly. They will be so proud of you! Please do not downgrade their reputation.
By the way, this is my blog, right? I pay for every word that I typed, right? For all you know, I paid for every word that you typed here as well! If you don’t like what I posted, just zip it if you can’t even string a decent point to defend yourself! YOU STILL SUCK!!!

If u went to the place where i study then u will actually kno how many of the chinese there speak mandarin there. Most of them dun study chinese at all and kept looking down on others who are not fluent in english. Are english really so superb? Honestly i was one of those who had been looked down upon and was forced to go to track II for my english. By the way i study in INTEC, where all the jpa scholar went….
Oh, I don’t think so. Because at the place where I am studying, 95% of the Chinese speak Mandarin and look down on anyone who speaks English, regardless of the race. Ask yourself: Is English that important? I don’t know if it is important for you, but it is for me. Well, you will find out one day.

I personally think, this issue can always be resolved with the right attitude and the right ways of dealing with it. It is not the background of a person to be blamed in this case. Now, dear Bull, it is very unwise of me to judge you for I have no idea who you are, exactly. However, what dearie Clare had mentioned in this particular post is true and that is the reality that we all are facing at this very moment. As an educator, I am worried for I know if this is the quality of our future generation, then it’s time to pray to GOD for a safe and secure life. Maybe, to a certain extent, I wouldn’t mind leaving the country. Dear Bull, have you forgotten once we were occupied by many foreign powers? That was not long ago… Now, what concerns me the most is… are we heading there again? Well, from my end, I wouldn’t want that to happen. Never. Vision 2020 is going to be nothing but a day dream that fills up your ten-minute nap. Clare isn’t the only one who feels disgusted upon seeing how bad the result is and the kind of people who think that they know better than the rest even though they can’t even spell the word ‘bicycle’ correctly. Years of my teaching life… I have seen and encountered such ‘actors and actresses’. This is back to the idea of ATTITUDE. MOE has done tremendous improvement and putting humungous effort in ‘building up’ our young generation for a better future (make believe). You are an educator so i bet u know our government emphasizes more and more on Chinese learning… If i am not mistaken, even those Malays and Indians are trying to learning Chinese….. As an educator u still ignore the government’s policy, are u a good educator or jz someone paid to be SIT in the class and fooling with the lessons?Or should u be just someone by the name of educator but is actually someone who is totally inconsiderate. Do you know that calling someone bulldog is a great insults for those muslims? I really ponder about the quality of those wat-so-ever educators now if all the educators act like you….. Educators should be those who are willing to respects other races and their language….I admit it is VERY VERY important to learn English but please down degrade Chinese like this. You mentioned being conquered but don’t you realize that China is getting more and more attention in the world’s economy?

In fact personally i think that we must respect both English and Chinese and try to find a balance between. Now, listen hard bigbull, I am not calling a malay (muslim), a chinese or an indian or even other minorities around with such name. I gave choices. Choose. To be or not be? Now, if you think you don’t belong to any of those… then forget it. It has got nothing to do with my profession. I am not paid to sit and keep quiet. I am paid to sit and to share my knowledge and belief with others. Now, bigbull, as an educator, I strongly believe that the lack of any languages at all in a multiracial country like ours is a problem. I never degrade Chinese and other races in this country. Get your fact straight. What Clare and I commented was basically, our country is facing a major problem which is the focal problem of all, Communication! Now, a good example is YOU. You know how hard it is to communicate with people who don’t speak the language? This matter isn’t an issue if YOU were to be able to understand us. The problem is YOU don’t. Why? Communication. That’s the answer. Clare has made her statement saying that, everyone in this country should start to think further. We are no longer staying in a country where most people, twenty years ago, thought that we all lived on trees and caves. We are now modernized. Everything is fast and global. To be fast and global mean only one way… MASTER THE LANGUAGE. How many local varsities’ students who graduated the last few years are still seeking and begging for a place in the working world today? TONS of them. Why? Not because they can’t perform but because they FAIL to COMMUNICATE. This number will grow more and more if people don’t take it seriously. Government has done a lot. But, who to be blamed for all these nonsense? The PEOPLE + THE ATTITUDE= FAILURE. A very simple formula there. No matter where you put them, it is still the same. So, bigbull, as you named yourself, please stop this nonsense knowing the fact that, you have got nothing to prove. I’ve posted this in somebody else’s blog before. A person’s blog is like his/her house. In his/her house, he/she can say what he likes, do what he/she likes - farts anytime he/she wants, scratches any place where he/she itches. As a visitor to someone’s house, it is not for us to criticise and condemn. If we don’t like, we can just leave. That is simple politeness. So it is with a person’s blog. He/she can post whatever he/she wants. If we like, we stay and enjoy the company. If we don’t, then it is sheer politeness to leave.
In my point of view, the more languages one can master the better. Of course, we need to be aware of our priorities! Which language do we need MOST? Which language MUST we master? If we’re going to Poland, what is the point of excellence in English or Chinese at THAT point in time? In the professional sphere in Malaysia, I would think that good English is VITAL, though in some cases, knowledge of Chinese may be an advantage.
I hope my comment will not trigger more emotional outbursts. Wars have been fought as a result of friction over race, religion…and now, language. BTW, u all should know who I am…and you’d be VERY surprised to know that I know who u all are too, my 2005 students. As true gentlemen and my respected well-taught students, let the matter rest. Thank you.
