Crash-landing And The Lost Luggage Tag
Dec 14th, 2007 by Clare
“Cabin crew, please be seated for landing,” came through the speakers after a few minutes of turbulence upon approaching the airways of Sarawak. I was feeling uneasy as the airbus I was traveling in descended from the atmosphere. The captain of this flight, AK 5264, had announced earlier that the weather in Sibu to have heavy rain with the temperature of 24 degrees Celcius.
It took forever for the airbus A320 to land. After about half an hour after the announcement, I felt the aircraft descending rapidly as the pilot, Captain Ridzuan, lower the throttle of the engine. I knew this because the sound of the engine had quietened a notch. It indicated that the aircraft was about to land any minute now. I can feel the passengers were holding their breath. Those seated next to the window peered into the darkness of Sibu night sky.
BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!! The aircraft landed with a loud sickening metal-banging-the-tarmac sound. Scared the shit out of me!
AAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!! People were screaming! Briefly. Then followed by ‘TSK TSK TSK’ ala Cicakman from the passengers. When the lights in the aircraft was turned on, people heaved sighs of relief. What a terrible landing skill!
Alvin suspected that the pilots of Air Asia are still not used to the control system in the Airbus because they have been flying Boeing 737 all these while. And now that Air Asia has substituted all their aircrafts with Airbus A320, the pilots have crash-landed almost all the flights. In my humble opinion, Air Asia will have to fork out a sum of money to change the suspension of their aircrafts very soon due to frequent crash-landing.
Thank goodness that the queue for the immigration clearance was moving fast but we still have to wait for our luggage. I exited the arrival gate to pass my laptop and hand-carry bag to my dad before going in again for my luggage. 30 minutes passed before I saw my luggage. As I retrieved it from the conveyor belt, I felt something was not right!
My little blue Air Asia luggage tag was gone!!! F$%^N!@M@HC@OC!B@!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was furious! I marched straight to the lady security guard and asked for the place for me to lodge a complaint! I was fuming! I dragged my trolley-bag along to the Air Asia office on the first floor. A group of three foreigners were there knocking on the door. It was locked and nobody was there. I marched to the lift, punched the ground floor button, walked up to the information counter and asked again.
Me: My thing was lost. Where can I complain?
She: Air Asia flight kan? Complain kat office Air Asia kat atas.
Me: Tak ada orang lah!
She: You tunggu kat situ lah. Dia orang masih on duty lagi.
Me: Nak tunggu berapa lama? Dah lewat ni.
*An Air Asia ground crew happened to pass by*
She: *points* Tu! Cuba tanya tu!
Me: Okay! Thanks!
Ran to the guy in Air Asia black uniform.
Me: Excuse me. Barang saya hilang. Mana nak complain?
He: Kat atas.
Me: Atas takda orang lah!
He: Ikut saya.
I signaled my parents to wait for a while and followed the guy.
He: Barang apa hilang tu?
Me: Luggage tag.
He: Apa tu?
Me: Yang biru biru tu untuk letak kat luggage, bentuk kapal terbang Air Asia.
He: Oh! Buat apa letak kat luggage?
Me: (at this point I really wanna bitch-slap the guy!) Kalau LUGGAGE TAG tak letak kat luggage, nak letak kat mana? (I wanted to add: Gantung kat leher kah?)
He: *smiles stupidly at me*
He brought me to their office and took my report. Despite talking without using his brain earlier, he did his job quite professionally.
He photocopied my MyKad and my boarding pass. He even helped me photocopied the picture of the luggage tag from the Air Asia catalog “for easier process of replacement”, according to that guy.
And then he handed me the report and said he’ll refer it to his superior and will call me once they approve my request.
If you are saying that I made a big fuss out of a small cheap luggage tag, you might as well close this page and read other blogs go play far far, I don’t welcome you! I admit I only lost a luggage tag. Only a few ringgit. I might as well close one eye and buy a new one. No big deal, right?
WRONG!!!
The luggage tag was given to me by someone important. Sentimental value is irreplaceable. The luggage tag was not cheap, mind you! What if each time I came back, I lost a luggage tag? The accumulated loss will be of a large amount! The typical tidak apa attitude of Malaysians makes us liable to be taken advantage of. We must practice our rights, even if it was only a luggage tag. Will you close one eye if your whole luggage was lost? Will you? Exactly me point!
Done ranting! Phiew! Feeling better now! LOL!
In the mean time, let us wait for that phone call from Air Asia. If they do not replace my luggage tag, I am going to make more noise! Air Asia, don’t make me go to Datuk Pahamin! (his office is opposite my office only!)

lol congratulaaations cos u’ve gained the actual experience of flying with Air Asia! haha. anyway merry christmas AND i changed my link! hehe please link me again cos i’m applying for nuffnang ads lol

my luggage was ripped open once in MAS ariline check in point and money and camera were stolen. Can’t trust any local airlines here.
Huiyo! Never put money and camera in the luggage. I always hand carry them. Cannot trust them wan
sentimental value… i tot you were being a pain in the ass… kakakakaka….
Wahaha!!! I can be a pain in their whole body if they didn’t replace it
haiya, lidat mah very not secure!!! next time when i wanna board an airplane, sure i will weld all my belonging!!!
wakakakaka!!! anyway, glad to hear that u are ok clare………
Good idea! Next time I also want to weld my things liao! Wakakakkaa!!!
U did the right thing. If u lost something, must complain. And u r right about Malaysian tidak apa attitude. If we dun make complaints and give feedback, they will never improve.
I’d like to comment on Nicole’s bad experience. Luggage handling is handled by the airport authorities. Any airline will only check in our luggage and places it on the belt system. At the end of it, the airport authorities personnel takes over by transporting and loading them unto the plane. This is where abuse sometimes happen. I think this system sucks!
Because the airlines will have to compensate for damages, theft, etc. So they are losing alot of money from claims. While the airport authorities are not affected. However, the airline should also be responsible bcoz to us passengers, we dun care. We passed them our luggage, it’s their responsibility liao. No airlines have been able to solve this effectively. They can only complain to the airport authorities about the high amount of claims, lost baggage that they had to pay out.
Thanks for the info, Adrian. Very informative indeed.
That means airport authorities are the culprit but the airlines got bad names…how can lah like that. So bad wan!
Ha ha ha! Now we all know what to buy for Clare for Xmas!!! LOL!
Wuah! Like that also can
