Hindraf Rally
Nov 27th, 2007 by Clare
Hindraf stands for Hindu Rights Action Force. It was held on Sunday. As the name indicated, it involved the Indians. Hey, just because I am a Chinese does not mean that I am unaware of it, okay. I did not intend to join this rally anyway, not because I am not Indian but rather the purpose of the rally. The petition to the British Embassy was a bit ridiculous. I mean, extreme to a certain point. Do you think the Queen would actually fork out that kind of money? If yes, then I’ll start a petition to be sent to the Queen as well, not forgetting the Japanese government for compensation.
Not supporting the purpose of the rally does not mean I’ll belittle those taking part in the Hindraf rally. I am all for the rights of the people to walk and hand over the petition. Besides, this is a lot different from the Bersih Rally. Let’s not go into that. Anyway, a few things are learned from both rallies.
1. DO NOT TRUST THE LOCAL MEDIA!!!
The local media was so biased in doing the coverage on both rallies. Ignorant people were fooled into believing that somewhere, someone was rioting against the government while in actual reality, people were just walking to the palace to hand over a memorandum to the king to call for a fair and clean election. What the hell is so wrong with that?
By the way, the truth is so twisted with either added exaggeration or cover-ups that Malaysians from other states were tricked with lies. Let me quote an example:

Pay attention to the sentence in the red circle. That was what was reported in our beloved media. However, nothing can be more truthful than photo evidence, right? Here, let the following picture do the talking and you judge for yourself as who to believe:

Photo courtesy of Jeff Ooi’s Screenshots. Also read his post about the rally. It was a peaceful rally but the police had to fire tear gas and chemical water on the people. Why the hell did they have to use such force when there was no aggression on the people’s side? You should watch this video of another clown making fool of himself on Al Jazeera.
2. Misuse of government funds
Buying some screwdrivers for RM50 when the actual market price is RM12? Sending tourist to space? Increase toll rates when the condition of the highway is worse than Semi Value’s face? Those are all our money wei! I see. Revised version of Robin Hood. Rob from the poor and give it to the rich.
Only after I read Adrian’s post, I am even more convinced that we are being screwed all these while. From Adrian’s blog, I got to know about the usage of 200 canisters of tear gas during the Hindraf rally. And we are wondering why our economy never improved! Funds are being wasted here and there, employing unproductive people, sponsoring undeserving people to education overseas, you name it.
3. Politicians said the darndest things
I am referring to that that that that that that gangsta rapping minister (dan zon-zon yang sewaktu dengannya) who put our country to shame on Al Jazeera. And you are wondering why our local public universities did not make it to the Top 200 World Universities Ranking! Those people are setting the examples.
Putting your mouth in action without putting your brain in gear summarizes the politicians in the country (not all, you know who they are). The baseless accusations against the bloggers, racist remarks, power-hungry NORMAL citizen trying to be smart, etc.

I don’t know where am I heading in this post. Just so you know, think properly before you vote this time. People, stop putting useless people to rule your country. I thought the people’s government is chosen by the people, for the people and not the other way round.
“PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR GOVERNMENTS. GOVERNMENTS SHOULD BE AFRAID OF THEIR PEOPLE” - V for Vendetta

never trust the media… what’s new huh?
that line from v for vendetta is really over-used ler. i am sad to say that, many are still afraid of the govt.
What to do? They use threat so-called legally to scare the people.
*sighs* these ppl ah, not thankful at all, they really think that they will be better off living in India? Lets just send them back to their homeland and let them feel how its like to live there and then compare the situation here…
Yalor, better send them back to India if they like to complain that much
I think hindraf just trying to get international attention. Even the lawsuit is just an excuse. What can they hope to achieve by shouting in the boleh cage alone?
For what? Nobody in the world would give a damn about them
Hi there!
Yes this government should be afraid of the people. But actually they are afraid that the people can find a way to “revamp” the election commission. We just hope that this over-used cliche is still true, and the election next year bears the result.
We can only hope and fight the best we can, so lets not be cynics and give up too soon. The world is not changed in a day. Even God took 6 days (and I am not even joking)!
This is the so called democracy! ~Pui~ (spit on my keyboard)
Democracy by name only
Hey fellas, if anyone of you have lived overseas as a resident for a long period of time in an advanced society would realise that part of being a democracy is freedom of expression and speech. Martin luther King also had to endure a lot of humiliation before having his voice heard. Gandhi too was laughed at for being a nut but his name lives longer in history than any other coward who sits behind his desk and takes potshots at the world. If you really understand what democracy means it is the right to make a clear and informed decision in your life. Freedom comes at a cost because it is always curbed by auhthorities even in democracies. Morover in a democracy evrybody is equal and there are no second class citizens. In this bloody democracy we have what you call a caste sytem where bumiputras are the higher caste and get all the benefits while the rest have to fight for scraps. Malaysia Boleh only in the little minds of idiots.
