Sarawak Laksa
Aug 25th, 2007 by Clare
The last time that I had it was some time in April. I had the original one. Fresh and boiling hot from the pot at one of the kopitiam called Foody Goody in Kuching.
Look at the prawns! They were HUGE! Fresh and juicy nonetheless. *drools*
It is very hard to find authentic Sarawak Laksa in West Malaysia (read:KL). Every other stall that claimed to have the original Sarawak Laksa are conmen/women. Those I’ve tasted were a really pale imitation of the real thing. Trying to cheat me with Curry Mee? Try harder! You can fool KL people into believing that you sell the most original Sarawak laksa in KL/PJ/whatever, but you cannot fool people who practically grew up eating Sarawak laksa in Sarawak.
Rumours have it that there is a stall selling authentic Sarawak Laksa at TTDI. I did give it a try. This stall in Rasta Food Court really sell original Sarawak Laksa.
The HUGE bowl of laksa could last me 2 meals! Believe me, it was that much! I frequented Rasta Food Court a few times after that. The stall operator, a Bumiputera woman from Sarawak, is so generous with the prawns. One bowl costs RM4.50 only! One fine evening, I was craving for Sarawak Laksa. I went to this stall and found the stall empty. According to the neighbour, they had moved to God-knows-where. What a disappointment!
But there is another place in KL that sell authentic Sarawak Laksa, introduced by my former boss. A corner kopitiam in Lucky Garden, Bangsar.
The stall is operated by a Kuching woman as well. By the way, do tune in to Astro Wah Lai Toi on the 21st October at 8pm for more information about the stall. It’s a good news for Sarawakian in KL who miss laksa.
Last week, I craved the laksa so much that I had two huge bowls. 0.o!!!

u evil!
Thank you!

U can give it a try at Laksa Shack. They sell variety of laksa from all over malaysia. Their Sarawak Laksa is so damn nice. I think this is a franchise stall. Go give it a try. But, yeah the price let it be a secret. Lol.

Wow! Thank you!
I am so honoured…
I still dunno where the looks-like-curry & tastes-like-curry laksa originated from. Everybody claims from their hometown. Now you also made a claim. Very confusing lah. I wanna quit eating to protest!!!
Happy Birthday Clare from Bengbeng n Mrs n Benghui
Thank you Bengbeng

Timun? Whr got? Every time, I ate dun have leh.
Hi all,
Not to boast or anything like that. I grew up in Kuching and Sibu. My mom used to rent a stall in Sibu back then. She cooked Laksa Sarawak and she still cooks it today. There is one special paste that she uses to cook it. This paste can be found in Sibu Wet Market. There is this one little store that sells all the spices and whatever you wanna call it, they have all that you need (probably things that you don’t even need and heard of before too). Now, I have lived in KL for 8 years now. Not even once…let me repeat… not even once I had a nice real, authentic and original (man, talking about repetition) Laksa Sarawak in Kuala Lumpur. Yeah… they claim they know what Laksa Sarawak is…but they gave me Curry Mee. Now, even the Laksa Shack in One U can’t even make the real Laksa Sarawak! Friends, if you guys are really into food and stuffs… please spread your so called ‘Wings’, travel… go see places… Sarawak and Sabah are not that far anymore. You guys can get a very good deal of airfare from Airasia to fly there… see places and try their food… Laksa Sarawak is meant to be sold in Sarawak Only.

Agree!!! Laksa from Sarawak is still the BEST! But here, when I am craving for a bowl…those I mentioned are the best that can be found outside Sarawak. Beggars can’t be choosers, can they? Can belanja me the Sarawak Laksa that your mum cooks?
Hi Clare,
Yeah…beggars can’t choose…Well, that happens to us all here. The plight of the Sarawakians… Anyway, sure I will belanja you the Sarawak Laksa soon. Maybe I can cook for you then… I love cooking. I just need the paste…that’s all. And, to be honest with you Clare… I miss Kampua too…

hehehe….so proud to be Sarawakian. Anyway, Laksa Sarawak still the A 1 stop side food in my list. Go ahead and try it out. It will be a waste if you don’t try it out, even my Director’s Company from KL, say that Laksa Sarawak is the best whenever he is here (Sarawak) this menu never missed out.
