Covering up your ass?
Jul 23rd, 2007 by Clare
The news was on a Chinese daily, Sin Chew yesterday regarding this matter but I couldn’t find the link.
**Update: I found the link in the Chinese Dailies. Check out the news here and here! Those who can read Chinese, please translate ya! Thank you!
Oh, not forgetting this news in UUM website! My coursemate, Fookiat is blogging about it as well. Read it here!

Look what is in The Star today:

I knew this would come out today. Nothing surprising. Dr Faiz’s respond were so common and sound scripted like all the clowns in the bocor case, I am not buying it.
“The university does not make any ruling that discriminates any race…” Of course the university does not, but YOU do! Ever since my second semester here, YOU were making a hell lot of absurd rules that indirectly discriminates against us chinese! You see, THAT GUY purposely made it COMPULSORY for us (girls) to wear LONG-SLEEVED, collared, white shirt for our co-curricular activities when initially we were allowed short-sleeved. I did not buy any long-sleeved shirt because HOW THE HELL DO YOU JOIN SPORTS ACTIVITIES IN LONG-SLEEVED SHIRT!!! We were already being forced to wear long, black track suit which, to me, could already make one blacked out! Until today, I am the only one that still wear my short-sleeved shirt, no matter what. This is not winter, I don’t want to limit my movements covering up like a mummy, thank you very much! It is nauseating!
And when I thought that I am the only one who made a big deal out of this issue in my blog, imagine my surprise when I saw my blog featured in Education In Malaysia’s blog and Komunikasi USM’s blog, both talking about the dress code in UUM issue. Click over and check them out!
Man, UUM is getting so famous all for the WRONG reason! Buahahahahhahahaa!!! ![]()

Be prepared, too, for the consequences that come along with critical writing. UUM’s got the attention she deserves, and you’ve got yours. People in high offices who are now defending themselves, red-faced, will soon come knocking at the “culprit’s” window. These people do not fancy questions, and it was certainly reflected in the way they answered, no, avoided the issue. Keep in touch, you guys have my support.
Yeah, we are aware of that as well. If they do something to us, we’ll definitely stand up for each other. It is our rights anyway. Thank you for your advise and support!
wow.. way to go clare aka erin brockovich of UUM lol!! yeah, but make sure becareful la. this ppl get offended very easily wan and look what they did to Sarawak Tribune.. Sorry to say theres very little freedom of speech here…
Yeap, freedom of speech is almost null here…
u know.. when i read that in the news… i actually thought about your post!
i think you should write a letter to the press.
Zewt, I am still considering that but no one to guide me…You know, I can get very sarcastic and straight to the point and offend people
The witchunt has begun. Last nights RTM2 news has a section which touches about irresponsible bloggers, how they spread lies, creating disharmony, bla bla…. They highlighted RPK’s writing and this dresscode issue as examples.
I salute your bravery.
But…but…these are not lies… *runs far far*
The letter in the UUM’s website, in the letterhead….
“UUM : UNIVERSITI PILIHAN UTAMA”
(FIRST CHOICE UNIVERSITY)
ROFL. This is the best joke of the year!
Clare, don’t be angry. Can’t help it, it’s really funny.
Not angry. I laughed at that too! LOL
Wow, ur uni very ‘cute’ n know how to make it famous too! Can see it in newspapers everyday! Good publicity indeed!
Yeah! Cheap publicity! Low cost and effective!
Hi Clare, been away for a while. Just a little de tour to my former university in the UK. Anyway, kind of cool to see something is really happening here in the country. I guess someone has made her statement heard. Well, it is about time for our education world to go further. We can no longer stay in the same place and practise the same old style. Well, I can see now that these people realise that our students will not go quietly into the night. They have their rights to voice out their opinions. Like I told you in my previous comments, students’ comfort is their first priority. Forget about the old ways of managing universities. People these days have changed. They are smarter now. But, that does not mean that students back then were any less smarter. In short, the world has changed thus we have to follow suit.
Funny thing is I always have this little thing in mind. I believe that whoever that plan things will never ever understand what they are planning. It takes the mass to experience it and to come back with a comment or two. Conclusion, the so called planners have to change the entire plan or perhaps to revamp the ideas. But, it is strange here in this little country that these planners would refuse to make any changes due to their stubborness and stupidity. Some resorted to crappy excuses and pretended to be innocent.
I agree to what ek said in the first comment. One must be prepared for the consequences of what one has done. However, I still believe that life without taking any risks is as good as NOT LIVING. We dare ourselves to challenge whatever ideas that we cannot conform to. To confound and confront this matter at the early stage is wiser. I believe that to point out someone’s mistake is a noble thing because this is how we all live in this world. We need to grow up and we need to develop. Unless if we refuse to do so…
ha ha, does they get this news after reading your blog last time? ha ha
Most probably! But a lot of people thought that I wrote the article in the press! I’m innocent!
Woo woo! A lot of people quoting clareng.com!
Looks like Malaysia preparing for winter season soon with those long pants and shirts. For the best interest of students, you will catch cold if you wear too short…haha. Wonder is it that hard to find an excuse instead of providing a baseless claim. Instead of changing your poster, go spend your time to think of better excuses. At least students feel better with good reasons than a nice poster.
And there are a lot of other more significant issues for them to do and spend money on instead of printing wrong posters.
