I modelled and two cents on MUET
Jul 17th, 2007 by Clare
When you log on to UUM’s website (which you are not likely to do) at www.uum.edu.my this page will greet you:

When you look at the second picture from the left on the banner, try hard to spot me:
After that I was called to model for the university’s brochure in this picture:
Yours truly is the girl without the tudung (DUH!)
And was called again for another photo-taking session for international education brochure. I saw the brochure during the Career Fair in Penang last year. They printed this picture on the flyer:
That guy on my left used to woo me before. Muahahahhahahaha!!!!!
On a totally different department, look what I found in the news today:

So bangga kah 74, 682 people got Band Three and LOWER??? Band Three is considered very poor, according to my standard, never mind the Band Two and One. People were popping the champagne when they got Band Four when I was in Form Six. I still see Band Four as limited users and a lot of them do not deserve to get Band 3, never mind Band 4!
Where is the standard? Where is the quality? Where is fair judgement? I was devastated with only a Band Five when I aimed for a Band Six. Tell me, who doesn’t hope for the best? Maybe I was too confident and therefore did nothing about my English. If only I watched more Hollywood blockbusters or Oprah Winfrey shows!
I was shocked when I learnt that this university consists of abundant people (you-know-who)with MUET result of Band 2 and Band 1. How the hell they get in here in the first place? I thought the terms and conditions to enter a university is at least Band 3 (which I totally disagree)!
Is it any wonder why local graduates especially those who-must-not-be-named no speak Engrand? They insist on answering your interview in Bahasa Melayu Malaysia, no? By the end of the interview, you know you do not want this kind of people working for you because they do not have any cow sense, never mind common sense!

Hi Clare, Congrats!… You look cool in those pictures. Well, guess we have a future model here. Shall we go grab some champagne or what?
Now, that is what I have been telling people around me especially those teachers and so called lecturers. I don’t blame government in this issue because our government has spent millions for these people. Like I told you previously in some of my comments, our education system that needs to be changed somehow. There is no way we can produce such competitive and outstanding students in the future if our system does not support nor parallel with today’s world. It is such a waste of time, money, effort and on top of all, human capital in general.
The second vital aspects that we have to change are the people, the educators, and the parents all over the country. As long as we have these people, educators and parents who are not sensitive and premature in thinking, we won’t be able to pursue the whole idea of changing globally. I know to change is not easy but for the sake of our future we have to, somehow… Change is inevitable. People, educators and parents must be opened and be willing to accept new ideas and changes. I am pretty sure those students who can’t speak and use English well are those who come from families who do not care and simply think that English is not our language and therefore, there is no need to learn it.
And, of course, our Ministry of Education must be strict and bold in filtering who can be accepted and who can’t be. Often time I bump into cases in which there are students who are qualified and deserve some seats in local varsities do not get any instead those who are playing truant and gaining ‘cukup makan’ marks constantly in schools get it. This happens many times and I feel sad for those who can’t make it.
Thus, all we have to do is change and be liquid in some ways. By being so, we are adaptive people. The adaptability will ensure our success in our future engagements and plans.

u femes liao!
I am?
Mak ai… cantik nyer clare…. =)
Malunya aku…
Kenape Clare nih suka sangat tutup mata? Kih kih kih
I just seen a pamphlet for those who want to do long-distance learning at my uni. To do Science courses, minimum Band One! I couldn’t believe my eyes man.
Not tutup mata lah that one…I was looking downwards…Hahahah!!!
Here also got a lot of Band One…talking to them feels nauseating…
does that make you lame or cool? to be featured as that? ha ha
I don’t feel cool nor lame…should I be proud or insulted? I don’t know!
wow, it’s a small world afterall. That girl next to you was my primary school classmate! LOL.
They lower the English requirements to enter public Us like gila la.
Like CY said, Band 1 also can enter adi. Imagine la Band 1!
IMO, those who get Band 4 already are limited users. What about those with Band 1? “Never heard of English?”
Band 1 ar? “Har? Apa you cakap? I tak paham!” That kind lor…
lol, even in my college some of the ppl are struggling really really hard with english and i hate it most when they try to speak to you in those directly translated english like they know it… and the gov are sending these kinda ppl (u know la) overseas doing bloody medicine…imagine that! how embarrassing!!!!! sucks la wei… =.=’
And why am I not surprised? Luckily still got people with good English like you around, if not damn malu lah!
Please dun mention the word ’standard’ or ‘quality’ on Malaysia soil, cos we really dun have it!
MAS s**ks…
Proton s**ks…
Telekom s**ks…
University s**ks…
SESCO or Tenaga s**ks…
National football team s**ks…
The list can go on and on… Last but not least, Streamyx s**ks too!
Yupe. You are right! The words ’standard’ or ‘quality’ cannot be in the same sentence with the word ‘Malaysia’
Congratulation!!!!So belanjar kampua with pien niu can arrr???
Can…..wait I back Sibu lah ok?
Very good, 74, 682 people got Band Three and LOWER, won’t it be more interesting if they could break it down into races, c what’s d outcome! U know what I mean!
Yeah, that would be an interesting one…I bet they already did that and the result confirmed our theory, they don’t dare to announce the result yet…LOL!!!
yerdeh… hehehehe….
that guy is cute.. what’s his name? hahahahahaha…
His name is Michael. Penang guy!
a lot of band 1 and band 2 eh… that’s why we have a lot of ppl saying we-shit mesia….
And also after I think cook-cook, I don’t want banana to fruit two times…
And I thought that girl and guy looked so familiar… After Jlshyang and your comment to Ahlost, now I know why… I know them! O.o (omg)
I already guessed you must know them because…Penang how big only (?)….
Actually, I was quiet shocked when I saw a girl got Band 1 for MUET when I was registering in UUM. After all the crap about importance of MUET for Uni admitance. It make me look cheap. Plus MOST of the medic, dented students were band 3. (All my friends who got Meds and Dent were Band 3) Crap, I know.
Even a lot of them Band 4 cannot even speak properly but tried to show off their English by speaking direct-translated BM English. The lower bands, ignore them, you would never understand what they are trying to say most of the time…
Actually,we can’t say tht all people with bnd 1 or 2 are very poor in english…i think some of them having an unexpected mistakes,or their health isn’t good during the time..
Thanks for the joke
