I managed to catch glimpse of the trailer of Evan Almighty while standing in the queue to buy the ticket to watch Die Hard 4.0 last month. I have decided to put Evan Almighty into my must-watch list. Comedy movies never failed to entertain me after a hectic and jam-packed day or week.
Evan Almighty, starring Steve Carell as the main character Evan Baxter, focuses on the story of Noah’s Ark where God (Morgan Freeman) orders Evan to build an ark to avoid a huge flood.
I was reading news on The Star Online a few minutes ago and see what I came across:
“Zam: Exercise some wisdom
PUTRAJAYA: Muslims in the country should exercise wisdom in addressing religious issues and not become hysterical when confronted with something seen as challenging their faith and belief like a film, Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said.
…Zainuddin said this in response to calls by various quarters for the Government to ban screening of Evan Almighty following claims the movie contained scenes that insulted Muslims and Islam.”

*slaps forehead*
If a film about a young man being ordered to build an ark to avoid big flood like Evan Almighty is seen as offending their Islamic faith, why I have not seen any Christian group come up with a protest? Ain’t the story of Noah and his ark in Christian’s Bible as well? *look left and right* No, I have yet to see Christians getting insulted and went on hunger strike for the government to ban the movie. That is not likely to happen.
I watched Bruce Almighty starring Jim Carrey with my parents and brother. We had a good laugh and were highly entertained. The movie poked fun at us, human, if we were given God’s power. We definitely would screw up! Bruce Almighty was to teach us a few lessons of life:
- There is a more powerful being watching over our every move - He is GOD!
- Do not neglect your faith
- God is listening
- God answers
emailsprayers - Do not promise the moon and the sun if you do not have the God’s ability to fulfill them
- To err is human
- …many more!
One should not be so quick to judge a movie from a single perspective especially if the movie gently touches on religion. Look at it from 360 different angles with an open mind. Do you know why movies are categorized under entertainment? DUH! To ENTERTAIN lah, of course!
What is with all the hoo-haas with movies and religion? Thou shall not confused both. Zainuddin is right, exercise some wisdom! If you do not have one, think with your arse, you’ll be a lot smarter! Please don’t create a storm in a teacup!

Nicely said.. Couldn’t have said it any better. When I saw the news, I was slapping my forehead as well.
