Tidak berjaya and final decision - Last part
Jun 23rd, 2007 by Clare
Before making a decision, let us look at the pros and cons studying in a local university and a private university.
Let us start with the local one first. I am a local university product which does give me a clear picture of the insight of a local university. All the local universities in the country bear resemblance in a way or another. So don’t come and screw me if what I am about to say do not fit the description of your university.
I am from Universiti Ulu Utara Malaysia located in Sintok, Kedah. No, it is not on the map so quit searching. This university is 15 minutes drive from the Malaysia-Thai border at Bukit Kayu Hitam. Craps aside, first and foremost, the most obvious similarity of local universities is that they are run by the government (read M@|@Ys) and I am sure you have a better and clearer picture of how those mike alpha lima alpha yankees (let’s refer them as mike from now) works.
No different from any govenrment department, they will also push their responsibilities around and make you run here and there to get your things done. In the end they will just get away with crime with a simple “Tak tau” and “Bukan kita punya pasal”. Trying to get them to understand our situation is already a Herculean task, never mind what follows. You will have to “tunggu sekejap” which might be at least 1-2 weeks’ ’sekejap’ to get your message across/things done.
Studying in local university is no doubt cheaper than private university. But cheap education comes with cheap knowledge. Hence the production of local graduate that is full of shit, knows nuts, no communication skills, no people skills, no common sense, downright stupid, you name it they have it! Now don’t come to me and say ’so you are one of those kind lah’, screw you, I mentioned already we are talking about the mikes. You Chinese don’t be happy yet. Majority of the Chinese there are also like that and I am not surprise.
I can write a book on this if I go on and on. Therefore I guess I’ll stop at this point. Last but not the least, due to my brother’s physical condition, I am aware that most local universities are not handicap-friendly which is our main concern here. And I forgot to mention, students in local uni are selfish. They especially the Chinese won’t help you unless you are of benefit to them.
Okay, now the private university turn. No, I have never been to or studied in a private university. But I have a lot of friends and classmates who are. Private universities are, no doubt, very expensive, I mean the fees. It will burn a huge hole in your wallet and in your pants if you are poor like me who cannot afford it. There are fees for registration, miscellaneous, school fee, library, sports, gym, maintenance, exam fees, etc. Total those up, you’ll get an atomic bomb! We only pay about RM 1000 + for local university with all the fees included. (I know, cheap education = cheap knowledge). Well, money talks!
Any Tom, Dick and Harry can be a lecturer at a private university. They are of questionable qualifications. It felt more like going to tuition classes than attending a lecture in a private university. Certificates or degrees from a private university might not be recognized, some of them. Students from private universities have more freedom. They are free to dye their hair, pierce their bodies, tattoo their asses, skimpily dressed to classes, display themselves like a Christmas tree, etc.
Now, now, let us not be quick to judge and stereotype like what I just did. At the end of the days, it is who you are that matters, not how much education you have. Education serves the purpose of guidance to gain knowledge, not giving knowledge as we presumed.
On the point about the students in private universities who dyed their hair, pierce their bodies, etc…let us not judge them on their appearance, shall we? After all, the amount of knowledge that they have will not leak through the holes of their pierced bodies and their rainbow-coloured hair does not make them any stupider than you with original hair colour. What is the point with all the discipline when your IQ is so so much lower than the pierced clowns, right? So long they do not go around raping girls, taking drugs, robbing, etc they are still smarter than you.
Back to my brother. The decision that we made were based on our perspectives from different angles. Yes, he could appeal through prominent political figures and get into a local university pursuing the course that is not his first choice as advised by the stupid people in my previous entry. An important reminder: most local universities DO NOT have handicap-friendly facilities! At the end of the days, he will graduate with a degree which is not a priority to him e.g. Human Resourse Management (?)
We have come to a decision after a few days of headache and brain-storming sessions and it would be…
*drum rolls please*
James is going to pursue what he wants i.e. ACCOUNTING at a private institution! *applause* Wish him all the best now.
Have an enjoyable and blessed weekend everyone! ![]()
